Traffic chaos in Mühlenbeck: Canal renovation ensures further delays!

Mühlenbeck. The residents have been fighting with half -sided closures and traffic chaos since September. The reason? The dilapidated channel shafts, which urgently need to be renovated. The Fließtal sewage association has recognized the need: the old shafts are porous and badly damaged!

But the work is a real challenge! "Unexpected obstacles in the underground make life difficult for us," explains Rita Ehrlich, the press spokeswoman for the local government. The situation is so precarious that the work must now be extended by December 18, 2024. And that's not all: from January 13, 2025, there will be delays depending on the weather!

Why are the channel work in Mühlenbeck necessary?

The urgency of this work is alarming! When organic fabrics are decomposed in the sewage, the dangerous gas of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is created, which attacks the old shafts. There is a risk that wastewater will seep into the ground and the groundwater, which could have catastrophic consequences!

In order to extend the lifespan of the chess facilities, a new, H2S-resistant material is used. The renovation is extremely complex and requires precise manual work. Each shaft is individually adapted with the latest laser imaging and processed in layers. The work is done without disturbing the operation of the sewage system, which represents a logistical masterpiece!
