Oberhavel: New comprehensive school in Schönfließ should solve a lack of school places!

Oranienburg. In the district of Oberhavel, the number of pupils rise rapidly! The situation in secondary schools is tense, the classes are overcrowded and many buildings are in need of renovation. In order to counter this challenge, the district plans to build a new comprehensive school in Schönfließ - and that faster than ever before!

The Education Committee decided on Monday evening, November 18, the creation of new school places is a top priority. The new five -year comprehensive school is to offer at least one high school and is considered urgently necessary to relieve schools in Mühlenbeck and Birkenwerder. The new building was originally planned for 2030, but thanks to existing planning documents, the school could be opened in 2028. "Hopefully that will give us a time advantage," emphasizes the head of education Holger Mittelstädt.

financial bottlenecks and priorities

But the financial framework is tense! In order to implement the new comprehensive school, other projects such as the construction of a new gym for the high school in Lehnitz and the new construction of the Werner von Siemens secondary school in Gransee must be postponed. These projects were deleted from medium -term planning, which means that they cannot be tackled by 2028.

The Chair of the Education Committee, Katrin Gehring, expresses: She does not want to accept a temporal delay in the new Siemens School in Gransee and demands that you to check the draft budget 2025 in order to delete other projects. The situation remains tense, while the plans for the new comprehensive school in Schönfließ will be promoted!
