Linde on Schlossplatz: Investigation brings important clarity!
Oranienburg. On Tuesday morning a surprising scene on the castle center: A vehicle with a lifting plat Workers in work clothes and vehicles of the city administration. The rumor that the impressive tree, which is now almost 100 years old, could possibly be felled, hovered in the air.
The relief followed quickly: No, the linden tree should not give way! Rather, routine stability tests took place here. This technology is used to ensure the safety of the tree. Hilmar Schütte, the department head responsible for tree protection, explained optimistically: "We hope that everything is positive and the tree stops - we are doing this." With special sensors for sound measurement and a train test at a height of 9.50 meters, it should be checked whether the tree withstands the requirements.
High load tested!
The measurements showed that the linden tree withstand a train of 1620 Newton meters, both towards the right and left. But Schütte decided not to give up an immediate evaluation: "We will evaluate the results in around two weeks." Nevertheless, the uncertainty remains, because the old age and the prior sealing of the square could lead to problems with the roots. "The tree can be healthy or lazy on the inside," says Schütte.
If the results are negative, circumcision of the tree is up for debate to reduce the load and maintain the linden. Otherwise, the drastic decision to fell could be pending. These measures are part of a usual procedure to ensure the safety of old trees in heavily frequented areas.
