Kremmen chooses: Who will be the new mayor? Tension increases!
In the small town of Kremmen there will be a decisive choice next Sunday, October 13, 2024. The citizens of the city are allowed to submit their voices again to decide who will take over the helm in the Kremmen town hall in March 2025. The election campaign is now between the incumbent Mayor Sebastian Busse from the CDU and the challenger Stefanie Gebauer from the free voters districts.
A second ballot is necessary because, on the first attempt on September 22, 2024, none of the three candidates could achieve the required absolute majority. Sebastian Busse, who received 49.5 percent of the votes in the first round, was barely scratched past the majority. Stefanie Gebauer followed with 34.5 percent, while the third candidate, whose support was inadequate, left the race. This constellation ensures that the Kremmen voters have the opportunity to make the final decision on Sunday.
important details about the election
The polling stations in Kremmen open on Sunday at 8 a.m. and remain open until 8:30 p.m. They can be found in all districts of the city, including the town hall and the school kitchen. The election management has registered a total of 6599 voters, of whom 1863 postal voting documents have already requested. Voters who want to give their voice personally on Sunday have to go to the special area for postal voting in the town hall, since voting in the regular locations is not possible.
Another aspect that voters have to keep in mind is the quorum for the choice. In order to win, the candidate not only has to achieve the absolute majority, i.e. more than 50 percent of the votes cast, but also ensure that at least 15 percent of the eligible voters vote for him or she. This corresponds to about 990 votes in Kremmen.
To ensure that the election is smooth, election manager Susanne Tamms asks the voters to bring their eligibility to the polling station. This authorization was already given at the first ballot, but alternatively, a valid ID card is sufficient.
The tension in the city is noticeable. Many Kremmeners hope that the results of the election will be both clear and for the future of the city.
