Citizens' initiative is fighting for live streaming meetings in Oberkrämer!

In Oberkrämer, a resident application caused excitement when the proposal to stream municipal political meetings via video and audio live on the community representatives. Activist Randolf Dehmel, who leads the citizens' initiative for more transparency, explained during the meeting: "That makes me really angry." Despite the support of 580 signatures submitted in August, the administrative template presented provided for to reject live transmission due to high costs of 100,000 euros annually, which criticized Dehmel as "tendency and manipulative". He referred to the experiences of other municipalities in which the costs for a streaming concept were much lower.

criticism of the costs and the rejection

The head of the chief Ronny Rücker rejected the concerns and described the criticism as "cheek". Nevertheless, the citizens' initiative did not remain idle and called for a practical concept that would have reduced the costs and had established the possibility of more transparency. Guido Braak, another member of the initiative, advocated adapting the application for a basic review. The decision to reject was made with only four votes in the case of three abstentions, which Dehmel considered a missed opportunity for more citizenship.

According to a detailed analysis, different costs for streaming services were discussed during the session. There are no longer any costs in the neighboring community of Birkenwerder, while other municipalities work considerably cheaper. This led to a heated debate about the necessity and the benefits of public session broadcasts that could promote acceptance among the population, as Dehmel noted. "That was sobering, but I stay on the ball," he announced that he would continue to actively fight for transparency in local politics, as was reported in the article by MAZ.
