Cat elend in Nauen: Animal welfare fights against uncontrolled propagation

Nauen. Stray cats reproduce uncontrollably, and the animal protection association Falkensee-Osthavelland is desperately fighting against the growing need. In 2023, around 200 cats and hangover could be neutered, but the situation remains alarming. The Brieselang veterinarian Monika Kruschinski, chairwoman of the association since 2000, warns: "There is a hidden die of the cats." Many animals are not reported and suffer from anonymity.

The animal rights activists report a terrible misery: "Again and again you can find half-racing, terminally ill cat kits." A dozen adult cats were captured on a junkyard in Nauen, which had increased uncontrollably there. The club members use Falls to catch the animals, to have them neutered and then leave it free. "We have the luxury of getting the costs from the district in recent years," said Kruschinski. But the financial support has halved and the future of the association is in the stars.

The animal rights activists capture the strays, neuter them and expose them to their familiar locations. "It is hardly possible to find a new home for a shy adult cat," explains Kruschinski. The volunteers try to get the young animals tame and mediate them after medical care. But the fates are often tragic: "Again and again it happens that animals are attracted and fed, and when they come with young animals, it will no longer be taken care of." A shocking example is the case in which 80 cats were saved from an apartment in nauen - a sign of overwhelming and misunderstood love for animals.
