RMV announces revolutionary improvements for passenger information
The passenger information in the Rhine-Main area is to be optimized. This was announced by the Rhein-Main Transport Association (RMV) because the current system often works inadequate due to frequent construction sites and a lack of personnel in signal boxes. The travelers need indispensable information, especially if the timetable cannot be met, said RMV Managing Director Knut Ringat in an interview with the German Press Agency.
In order to meet this requirement, the RMV plans to set up at various points, especially in communication via app and on display boards. The system, which forwards information from the transport companies to the central data cap of the RMV, is to be designed more efficiently.
improvement in internal processes
A central problem affects the staffing of the control centers, where there may be delays if unforeseen disorders are reported. Thorsten Fromm, who is responsible for the coordination and public relations work of the RMV, explains: "The operating process has priority." The pressure, which results from the lack of personnel and frequent changes, contributes to uncertainty in information transfer.
The RMV is currently in discussions with a transport company to start a pilot project. It is planned to hire an additional employee in a certain control center who should only be responsible for passenger information. This could help to provide more detailed information during larger disorders in which several transport companies are affected. Nevertheless, Fromm emphasizes that the shortage of skilled workers is also a growing problem here.
strategies for qualitative improvement
Another step to improve passenger information is to create a new quality manager at the RMV. This position will have a comprehensive effect and work in cooperation with the transport companies. The aim is to communicate precise information on departure locations for rail replacement traffic and alternative trips during disorders.
"Fast and profound improvements are difficult to achieve in this area. We first have to analyze where mistakes occur and the companies involved sensitize the topic," continued Fromm. In this context, the number of construction site changes to the timetable change has risen to 2,500 this year, while the number of driving failures has quadrupled due to unoccupied signals. RMV boss Ringat spoke of a situation that is to a previously unknown extent in terms of deviations from the regular timetable.
The targeted measures show the efforts of the RMV to improve the communication and information of passengers in a challenging time. These developments are crucial for the satisfaction of travelers and the efficiency of local public transport.
