Greens in the crisis: Chair resigned in 2025 - what now?

Drama around the Greens in Brandenburg! The state chairman Alexandra Pichl and Hanna Große Holtrup have announced that they will step down in spring 2025. The reason for this is the devastating defeat in the state elections on September 22, when the environmental party was significantly unable to re -enter the Potsdam state parliament with only 4.1 percent of the second votes. This means for the first time in 15 years that the Greens can no longer put a parliamentary group in the state parliament!

"The processing of the election defeat has already started", Pichl announced in front of the assembled journalists. The party is planning regional conferences and a party congress on November 30th in Cottbus. But the reconstruction could be extremely difficult. With only 58 mandates in district days and city council meetings, the Greens are far from a nationwide presence in Brandenburg. The situation in the rural regions becomes particularly dramatic: in the Spree-Neiße district and in Elbe-Elster there is only one member of the Greens' members of the Greens! Here the green hope of a strong return in the distance seems to be.

The Bundestag election becomes the fate test

For the Greens everything is now on the brink: If the Bundestag election ends again in a disastrous defeat, the second Brandenburg Bundestag mandate could be lost! "The mood in the party is disappointed," said Pichl, but the determination of starting the new year and leading the Bundestag election campaign remains strong. It is still unclear who will lead the fortunes of the state association with currently 3,000 members from 2024. "There are no agreements," said Große Holtrup, "we rely on transparent processes!" While Pichl is applying as Mayor of Kleinmachnow, Great Holtrup begins her legal trainee. The tension increases - what will become of the Greens in Brandenburg?
