Air quality in Brandenburg: Alarming fine dust values discovered!
On January 12, 2025, current measurement data on air quality in Brandenburg an der Havel were published. The measuring station on the Werner-Seelenbinder sports field covered the concentration of fine dust particles up to PM10 per cubic meter of air. The defined limit for PM10 is 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air, which can be exceeded a maximum of 35 times a year, such as the The measured air pollutants also include nitrogen dioxide and ozone. The measured values show different categories of air quality: "very bad" for nitrogen dioxide over 200 µg/m³, fine dust over 100 µg/m³ and ozone over 240 µg/m³. The "good" category is not defined in any health -adverse effect and "very good" in optimal conditions for outdoor activities. The recommendations for health care range from avoiding physical exertion in the "bad" and "very bad" category to a harmless situation in the "very good" category.
fine dust and environmental pollution
Special mention was made by the air pollution from New Year's fireworks, which is classified as not significant compared to the year -round burden. On New Year's Eve, however, the fine dust pollution can increase sharply due to weather conditions, especially inversion weather conditions. Around 2050 tons of fine dust are released annually, with 1500 tons, i.e. 75%, on New Year's Eve.
In addition to the local measurement data, the Environmental Office On the development of fine dust pollution in Germany since 2000. Accordingly, the PM10 annual value is between 15 and 20 µg/m³ today, which represents a decrease of 50 µg/m³ in the 1990s. The measurements show that no exceedance of the annual limits of 40 µg/m³ have been found since 2012. Nevertheless, there are different conditions, whereby more frequent exceedances occur, especially in metropolitan areas.
