In Brandenburg an der Havel there is great disappointment: The highly expected reopening of the cult disco Manhattan has to be put on hold for the time being! Organizer Klaus Dölle, who runs the popular dance temple at the main train station, announced that the opening will be waiting for at least half a year under a new name "Likörfabrik". „Selbst wenn ich morgen die Baugenehmigung bekomme, bräuchte ich im besten Fall ein Vierteljahr, um alles umzusetzen“, so Dölle.

Der Grund für die Verzögerung? Ein langwieriger Streit um die Baugenehmigung! Dölle complains that his building application has been on the table for over seven months, while the city administration has always placed new requirements. „Ich warte nur noch auf das Go der Stadtverwaltung, aber es geht einfach nicht voran. Das ist belastend“, äußert er seinen Unmut. The building authority criticizes that the application is not complete and there are still questions about the development of the dirty water that must be clarified.

Streit um Abwasserleitung

Another dispute is the private sewage pipe, which runs under the railway line and is integrated into the public network of Deutsche Bahn. City spokesman Thomas Messerschmidt explains that the management must meet formal and technical requirements before the building permit can be granted. Dölle hingegen ist überzeugt, dass die Leitung noch in Betrieb ist und fordert die Stadt auf, diese freizugeben und zu sanieren.

The Kult-Disco Manhattan has been a popular meeting place for party goers for years and celebrated its last big party in 2015. Dölle has already invested over 100,000 euros in application procedures to enable the return of nightlife in Brandenburg an der Havel. The name change to the "Likörfabrik" is supposed to symbolize the comeback, but without the decisive building permit everything remains in the balance. "We are not making progress and what happens is ridiculous," said Dölle, who is determined to conquer the hearts of the Brandenburgers again.
