Hospital reform: Brandenburg's clinics before the end? Jacob raises the alarm!
Potsdam. The hospital reform of the Bundestag causes excitement in Brandenburg! Michael Jacob, the head of the State Hospital Society, raises the alarm: "The MPs have agreed to a law without knowing what consequences it has for our area." The reform could have fatal effects on the clinic landscape and exacerbate existing problems.
The reform stipulates that 38 locations in Brandenburg could suffer from the strict new specifications. Jacob explains that the reform has some positive aspects, such as the protection of 28 security locations, but remains the risk of clinic closures. In recent years, 36 percent of inpatient capacities have already been dismantled and the uncertainty about the future of the clinics has grown. "The reform will not contribute to its rescue," warns Jacob.
economic consequences of reform
The financial situation of the clinics is alarming! Spremberg and Guben have already filed for bankruptcy, while other cities such as Nauen and Neuruppin only survive thanks to financial subsidies of their counties. Jacob criticizes that the reform does not solve the most pressing problem of underfunding and fear that health insurance contributions will continue to increase. "If we don't act quickly, many clinics will no longer exist," says Jacob.
The reform could also lead to a domino effect if performance groups are deleted from the clinics. Jacob calls for a comprehensive revision of the health system to ensure the quality of the care. "We need a system that includes all areas of the healthcare system," he emphasizes. Time is urged, because the framework conditions for the hospital landscape should be determined by March 2025, and the financial challenges are enormous.
