Bureaucratic hurdles: Fendel demands faster recognition for specialists!

Deutschland - The specialist immigration law in Germany took a mixed balance in Germany a year after its reform. Tanja Fendel from the Institute for Labor Market and Vocational Research (IAB) emphasizes that despite the progress, there are still considerable bureaucratic hurdles. Specialists from third countries often have to wait a long time before they are allowed to work in Germany. "It is important to accelerate this process of recognition," emphasizes Fendel in an interview with WDR5. In some cases, recognition can take up to one and a half years!

Reform brings progress, but still a lot to do!

The changes in the law made in 2023 are considered "a step in the right direction". Nevertheless, further adjustments are necessary to facilitate access for specialists. Fendel calls for a reduction in salary thresholds so that even less well -paid places are attractive to immigrants. "It will probably continue to require improvements," she says and underlines the urgency to optimize the bureaucratic processes.
