Panketal celebrates volunteering: Mayor recognizes strong community!
In the Panketal town hall, the tension was literally tangible on October 18, 2024! Around 120 guests celebrated an impressive community reception, organized by Mayor Maximilian Wonke. Among those present were representatives from politics, business and the club life that used this solemn opportunity to exchange ideas and to appreciate the civic engagement.
In his gripping speech, Wonke looked back on significant events of the year. The laying of the foundation stone for the new elementary school on Elbestrasse marked the largest construction project in the municipality, and in November the topping -out ceremony is expected. But not everything was rosy: the opening of the Walter-Seig-Halle was cloudy because water damage dampened the joy. The mayor made it clear that despite financial bottlenecks, investments in the community are essential to improve the life of the residents. A wave of changes was felt in the political committees, which set new course after the local elections in June. His thanks went to the election helpers who made the elections possible so smoothly. The recognition of committed citizens was not neglected either - a total of six people were honored.appreciation of committed citizens
ilona trometer was praised for her years of commitment as a volunteer disability officer. She campaigned tirelessly for the rights of people with disabilities and was an important point of contact for all matters. Sigrid Harder was awarded for her political work in the municipal council and in the finance committee. In addition, she was active for many years as the chair of the sports community revision commission.
A special focus was on Daniela Grübner, who tirelessly saves hedgehogs in the hedgehog exhaustion station in Bernau. Their dedication is remarkable: she takes care of these vulnerable animals around the clock and secures the financial means for her club. Petra Drescher also devotes himself to animal welfare by picking hedgehogs, squirrels and other animals and even collecting feed donations for dogs in Turkey. The couple Astrid and Edmund Sommerfeldt was recognized for 15 years of committed cooperation - their creative projects and events strengthen social cohesion in Panketal.
