In the district of Göppingen, a remarkable exhibition by photographer Wilhelm Pabst can be seen. The exhibition entitled "Wonderful. The 1950s and 1960s in the Göppingen district in photographs by Wilhelm Pabst" is located in the gallery in the east wing of Filseck Castle and is open from November 9, 2024 to January 19, 2025. Pabst, who lived from 1921 to 2009, has worked for the new Württembergische Zeitung (NWZ) and its weekend supplement IWZ.
since 1956The exhibition shows a selection of around 100 motifs from Pabst's estate, which was taken over to the district archive in 2019. The photographs are devoted to various topics, including everyday and leisure life, social processes, as well as the change in local pictures and traffic infrastructure. Among the scenes shown are photographs from craft, agriculture, retail and production facilities such as Märklin and WMF.

Wilhelm Pabst also portrayed numerous prominent personalities from politics, culture and sport, as well as children, old people, US soldiers and “guest workers”. A photograph receives special attention that shows the later Nobel Prize winner for literature, Samuel Beckett, that Pabst recorded in Stuttgart in 1966 during the production of the film "He Joe". This scene from a television studio shows Beckett with worried frowned forehead.
The exhibition also addresses more difficult aspects of society, such as war -conscious, returnees and malnourished guest children from Berlin. An accompanying catalog for the exhibition comprises 420 pages and offers almost 500 unpublished illustrations that are available both in the exhibition (special price 20 euros) and in bookstores (29 euros).

This exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to discover the life's work of an important photographer, whose work documented important events and personalities for decades, and it is a tribute to the history of the Göppingen district, as well as the nwz reported.
