Köpenick celebrates Jewish music tradition: concert in Lewandowski on November 10th!
on Sunday, November 10, 2024, a very special concert will take place in the hall of "Fifteen Fifteen" in Köpenick. The 4th Köpenicker Synagogen concert is organized under the title "Louis Lewandowski - The Mendelssohn of the Synagogue". Admission begins at 4 p.m. while the concert starts at 5 p.m. This event aims to honor the heir of the composer Louis Lewandowski, which in his works made a connection between the traditional Jewish vocals and modern European music.
Marco Brauchmann, district councilor for further training, school, culture and sport, was enthusiastic about the importance of this concert. Lewandowski is known to have created an innovative liturgy for Jewish services that include organization. In his time, this was a novelty in Jewish sacred music, and his work is a bridge between traditional and new musical currents.
memory of the Köpenicker synagogue
This concert is not only a musical event, but also a commemoration for the Köpenick Synagogue, which served as the center of the Jewish community in Cöpenick from 1910 to 1938. The architect Adolf Sommerfeld designed the building, which was devastated during the Reichspogromnacht and finally suffered great damage in the Second World War. After the war it was completely removed, which underlines the importance of such events to memory of the Jewish culture and the legacy in the region.
In addition to the musical performance, there will also be high -quality contributions for discussion about Lewandowski's work. Prof. Dr. Andreas Nachama, rabbi of the Sukkat Schalom synagogue in Berlin, will talk about the importance of Lewandowski's music. A speech by Petra Pau, the Vice President of the German Bundestag, as well as Berlin Mayor and Senator for Finance, Stefan Evers, is also expected. This illustrious round of speakers underlines the relevance of the concert on a political and cultural level.
The musical direction of the concert is in the hands of Regina Yantian. Solists from the Synagogal Ensemble Berlin will enrich the performance with Jacobus Gladziwa on the organ and the Köpenick Duo Tobias Unterberg and Anna B. You will present works by Lewandowski, which should be of great interest for both laypeople and connoisseurs of the matter.
Admission to the concert is free, but a name for name is required. Interested parties can register on the website tkt-berlin.de or in the Alt-Köpenick tourist information to secure their place. The district office Treptow-Köpenick thanks the "Freiheit fifteen" as well as the Louis Lewandowski Festival and the numerous supporting partners who make this event possible and help to keep the cultural heritage alive.
