Tesla crash on the A11: driver injured, 20,000 euros damage!

On Friday morning, a serious accident occurred on the A11 towards Berlin. A 30-year-old driver of a Tesla lost control of his vehicle, which then crashed into the guardrail. In the impact, three segments of the security barrier were destroyed, which led to a total damage of 20,000 euros. The scene of the accident is located shortly before the Suckower Forst rest area.

After the incident, the police, fire brigade and rescue workers were large. The driver was taken to the hospital due to his injuries. During the accident recording, traffic was redirected via the rest area. The reason for the driver's loss of control has so far been unclear and the investigation is running.

autopilot problem at Tesla

In another context, concerns about the safety of Tesla's driver assistance systems have increased. Elon Musk has promised that these systems should be safer than human drivers. However, there were fatal accidents in the United States in which Teslas were involved in which the Autopilot driving assistance system played a role. Tesla himself shows responsibility for these accidents.

A report by Wall Street Journal (WSJ) shows that Tesla technology has been identified as a decisive factor in several accidents. Of 222 accidents examined, 75 are due to misconduct of the autopilot. These examinations were based on official accident data and videos that were obtained by a hacker. In 44 cases, there were accidents due to unexpected lane changes or a strong excretion, while in 31 cases obstacles were not or not recognized in time.

Experts warn that Tesla's systems are not optimized for certain traffic scenarios, such as overturned trucks. There are also problems with the interpretation of lights of emergency vehicles. The accidents are due to both hardware and software problems. It is striking that Tesla only uses camera -based environmental detection, while other manufacturers also use radar and lidar. The timing of the algorithm updates has an impact on improving the environment recognition. It is important to note that Tesla's driver assistance systems are only partially autonomous and that the drivers have to remain responsible for driving at any time.
