Pink Synagogue in Berlin: Queere Future meets Jewish heritage!
Pink Synagogue in Berlin: Queere Future meets Jewish heritage!
On Thursday, November 7th, the Steglitz estate in Berlin will be a stage for an informative artist discussion with Navot Miller. From 7 p.m. the room in the Rococo room becomes a meeting point for art and dialogue. The event is under the direction of Brigitte Hausmann from the Kultur Steglitz-Zehlendorf and Avi Feldman from Wannsee Contemporary.
In an exciting exchange, Miller is moderated by the art editor Nicola Kuhn, among other things with the curator of the Jewish Museum Berlin, Shelley Harten, and the architect Gesine Weinmiller, professor at the Hafencity University of Hamburg. The program manager of the Alfred Landecker Foundation, Jan Wilkens, will also be present to enrich the discussion.
The concept of the "Pink Shul"
The center of the conversation is Miller's vision of a pink synagogue that is intended as an inclusive site for all genders and beliefs. This synagogue is intended to offer space for the coexistence of queer and Jewish communities, while at the same time networking with other minorities in Berlin. Miller, who grew up in a Jewish Orthodox family in Israel, brings his experiences and identity in a cultural context that offers both challenges and opportunities.
The "Pink Shul" could take the first steps in a new, pluralistic direction in Wannsee, a place with a rich Jewish history and known as the place of residence of prominent Jewish artists such as Max Liebermann. Here, in a city that is historically connected to sex science and reform Jewry, Miller could create a place that celebrates the past and current Jewish and queer life.
The conversation will also deal with the current increase in anti -Semitism, queer hostility and racism. Miller will invite you to think about the role of religion and how religious spaces can be designed more inclusive to meet the challenges of our time.
The event is not only public, but also free of charge, which makes it accessible to a broad target group. Interested parties can register via the platform www.pretix.de/kultur-berlin-sz. However, it is pointed out that people who have noticed in the past through racist or human -conscious statements are excluded from the event.
The cooperation with Wannsee Contemporary and the accompanying exhibition “Navot Miller - A Pink Shul”, which can be seen until November 16, underline the commitment to the cultural diversity and the creation of rooms in which different communities can come together. Further information on this development can be found on www.berlin.de .
The hall moderation is adopted by Ibrahim Gülnar, which promises additional views and insights into this particularly relevant topic. With this event, an important signal is set in the current discussion about diversity and inclusion.
