The Berlin bear is back: 575 kilometers of hiking trails for everyone!
The Berlin bear is back: 575 kilometers of hiking trails for everyone!
Kreuzberg, Deutschland - In Berlin, an ambitious project is currently being implemented to revolutionize the hiking opportunities in the city. By autumn 2025, a total of around 575 kilometers will be provided with new signs to make the "green main paths" better known. This project has been under discussion since 2004, but there was no systematic implementation. The daily introduction of this initiative recently took place under the direction of Mobility Senator Ute Bonde (CDU) in Kreuzberg.
With the new concept, an extensive network of national hiking trails is created, which can be explored on foot. The first 5000 signposts are to be set up gradually, with the "zoo ring" standing out as the first signposted path. This 23 -kilometer circuit leads through the city and runs over the Landwehr Canal, starting at the Tiergarten station and ending at the Spree Central Station.
project financing and directions
For the comprehensive project, funds of 755,000 euros are planned, of which 280,000 euros are provided for planning costs. This year, many more ways, including the Kaulsdorfer Weg and the Wannsee-Weg, will be provided with new signs. Larger signs of branches and smaller ones are installed along the route.
Before implementing this project, you can find the old markings that have been heavily outdated since 2004. The new signs should not only be better visible, but also offer detailed information about the respective routes. In addition, flyers will be available that are reminiscent of the routes and highlights along the paths.
The renewal is observed critically, in particular by associations such as Fuss e.V. their board, Roland Stimpel, emphasizes that walking must be a clear priority. This must be guaranteed by measures such as speed limits and secure road crossings.
A central concern of the project is to guarantee the accessibility of the paths. For this purpose, “godfather” of the hiking association will regularly check the routes and the state -owned Grün Berlin GmbH is responsible for maintaining the signposts. This is particularly important to ensure that the new routes are accessible to all Berliners and visitors.
The preparations and implementations are in full swing, and mobile acts officers advertise that walking in Berlin gets more attention again. The discussion of transport such as e-scooters and cycling plays a role.
stimpel criticizes that the Charlottenburg section of the Spreeweg should be widely widened despite existing alternatives for cycling. This shows the difficulties and challenges that are associated with the growing traffic and the need for a pedestrian -friendly city.
Overall, the project to revive the "Green Hauptwegs" in Berlin is a step in the direction of promoting the hiking opportunities in the city and increasing the quality of life for pedestrians. The regular exercise and relaxation in nature is not only important for health, but also contributes to the attractiveness of Berlin, after all, the city is known for its beautiful parks and routes.
