SPD chooses candidates for the Bundestag election: Who wins in Köthen?
in Saxony-Anhalt, the political parties are preparing for the race for the 2025 federal election. The SPD has introduced its state list in Köthen, where eight candidates, led by the experienced Martin Kröber, go into the race. Kröber, in the Bundestag since 2021, wants to focus on digitization and transport policy. Among other things, Franziska Kersten, who works in environmental and agricultural issues, and Eric Eigendorf, who are involved in Halle, run for, among others. Also some new faces like Diana Bäse and Dr. Herbert Wollmann are represented on the list. The party congress is opened by Federal Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil as a guest speaker, who will set the federal political accents, such as Tagesschau reported.
CDU brings strong candidates to the race
At the same time, the CDU chose its top candidates for the Bundestag election: Sepp Müller received impressive 81 percent of the vote at the state representative assembly in Zerbst. The 35-year-old, who already won the direct mandate in the Dessau-Wittenberg constituency in 2021, criticized the current federal government, in particular the economic policy of the traffic light government, and demanded a fundamental change in politics. In addition to Müller, Dieter Stier and the young agricultural scientist Anna Aeikens also run for the CDU. Country chief Sven Schulze emphasizes the need to initiate a change of policy in Berlin and accuses Chancellor Olaf Scholz to be the face of failure, like n-tv reported.
Both parties are now faced with the challenge of convincing their voters of their programs and increasing the number of direct mandates in the upcoming election. While the SPD wants to defend its successes of 2021, the CDU relies on a clear change in political leadership.
