S-Bahn chaos in Berlin: Large construction site at Köpenick station announces diversions!

A new year brings new challenges for the S-Bahn in Berlin: From January 3., 2024, there will be considerable restrictions on S-Bahn traffic due to construction work at Köpenick station. The S3 between Friedrichshagen and Karlshorst is completely stopped from Friday evening to Monday morning. The stops Friedrichshagen, Hirschgarten, Köpenick, Wuhlheide and Karlshorst are not available during this time. While the S3 continues to drive from Erkner to Friedrichshagen and from Karlshorst to Spandau as usual, passengers have to use alternative transport options because replacement traffic is set up. The new S3A bus line will promote passengers between Friedrichshagen and Karlshorst, while a separate bus line S3B takes the longer path to the S-Bahn stop Wuhlheide, such as Berlin Live reported.

construction project influences S-Bahn use

The conversion project at Karlshorst station is already in full swing, and it is still being worked on improving the infrastructure for passengers. The focus is on a "winter -proof interim state", which, among other things, will improve weather protection and offer traveling opportunities in adverse weather conditions. While the electronic tensile destinations are already in operation, further work is to be started in the summer of 2024 in order to minimize the impairments for the users. The aim is to ensure further improvements in the timetable from the end of the holiday. The project participants strive to promote the work quickly and efficiently in order to offer passengers as soon as possible a reliable 10-minute cycle, as in detail.
