Parking in Erfurt will be more expensive: Changes from January 2025!
Erfurt, Deutschland - From January 2024, parking in Erfurt will be more expensive, which many drivers should unsettle. As MDR , the new fee for parking in the city center is now 2.50 euros per hour, an increase by 50 cents. This measure is the result of a legal requirement for collecting sales tax on parking fees. Some parking spaces outside the old town, like the EGA car park, are excluded from the increased prices. In addition, the originally promised free parking will not come for an hour, since according to the city administration, this would be technically impossible and the city's finances would put too much strain on the city.
But not only Erfurt is faced with rising parking fees. In many German cities, the search for free parking space is particularly challenging. An investigation by Allianz Direct shows that Frankfurt am Main is the leader at free parking spaces-45.17 % of the parking spaces are free. Pforzheim and Karlsruhe follow close to one after the other. In Berlin, on the other hand, there are the highest number of total capacities of parking spaces, but the percentage of free places is only 36.29 % in the middle of the nationwide comparison.
challenges through higher cars and less space
Another problem that the cities are concerned with are the increasingly wider and longer cars. This leaves less and less space for parking and presents the city planners with new challenges. The adaptation of the parking fees to prices in public transport is considered a possible solution to better use the available space. As the Situation in Erfurt shows, parking in urban areas will remain a hotly discussed topic in the near future.
