Despite immediate rescue measures and inpatient treatment in the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries on Friday. The driver was not injured.

Just a few days later, on November 9, there was another tragic accident in Pankow. A 17-year-old cyclist was hit by a 21-year-old driver around 11:30 p.m. when he wanted to cross the Mühlenstrasse with his unlit bike. The young person suffered a heavy traumatic brain trauma and also died in the hospital on November 15th. These two incidents mark the ninth and tenth fatal collision of cyclists in Berlin this year.

demonstration and commemoration

In order to commemorate the late cyclists, the ADFC Berlin e. V. on November 24, 2024 a #Visionzero demonstration. The event begins at 2:30 p.m. at the ADFC Velokiez in Kreuzberg and leads to the scene of the accident in Wittenau. A ghost wheel will be set up there at 4:00 p.m., followed by another memorial event at 5:00 p.m. at the scene of the accident in Pankow. These vigils are displayed as meetings and are protected by the police.

With this demonstration, the ADFC Berlin demands strict compliance with the Berlin Mobility Act, which pursues the goal of zero traffic dead and zero seriously injured. In order to achieve this, an error-forgiving infrastructure is required, as well as the mandatory equipment of cars and trucks with a turning assistant and automatic emergency stop systems to prevent and save fatal accidents.
