Lonely died: Berlin commemorates nameless deceased in funeral celebrations

Berlin, Deutschland - In Berlin, the loneliness of the deceased is granted a worthy place! Every year, many people die without relatives or friends who can accompany them on their last path. In order to enable these lonely souls a respectful farewell, memorial celebrations will be organized in various districts in the coming weeks. These events are open to everyone who wants to have the last honor for the deceased.

On November 22nd, a moving commemoration will take place in the St. Marienkirche. Silke Radosh-Hinder, superintendent in the church district of Berlin-Stadtmitte, invites everyone to hear the names, birth and death data of the lonely deceased and to ignite a candle for everyone. Visitors can bring flowers or personal objects to show their sympathy. Memorial celebrations are also planned in Pankow and Schöneberg, in which a total of 266 deceased are recognized. Health City Councilor Oliver Schworck (SPD) emphasizes that it often remains unclear whether the deceased were actually lonely or still used contacts.

a sign against loneliness

"If more people come to the celebration, even if they didn't know any deceased, it would be nice. It is a sign against loneliness in our city," says Martina Steffen-Elis, deputy superintendent of the Tempelhof-Schöneberg church district. On November 24th, the service "nobody is forgotten" will take place in the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Charlottenburg. In Neukölln the commemoration is traditionally held in January, and the church district of Reinickendorf is also planning a commemoration.

For the deceased who have no relatives and have not left any burial requests, the health department is organized by the health department. These funerals are not only a farewell, but also an important step to raise awareness of loneliness in society.
