Demolition stop in the Jahn sports park: Senate pulls the emergency brake!

berlin. A shock for sports fans and interested parties: The Berlin Senate has stopped the 300 million euro plan for the Jahn Sportpark in Prenzlauer Berg! In the middle of a budget crisis that meets the city hard, it was announced that massive savings are necessary. The dream of the new stadium that was supposed to replace the dilapidated GDR system has burst.

The demolition that started only a month ago was stopped abruptly after the administrative court imposed a temporary construction stop. Despite the work already carried out, this was done, which ended large parts of the entrance area. The Jahnsportpark Citizens' Initiative and the Naturfreunde Berlin environmental association had vehemently resisted the demolition, in particular due to the lack of species protection measures for the house sparrow. Now the stadium is left as a partial ruin, while the Senate is cutting the 3,950,000 euros intended for the demolition and another 20 million euros for construction work.

budget crisis forces

to rethink

Finance senator Stefan Evers (CDU) announced that the total costs for the project should be reduced to “well below 300 million euros”, ideally even below 250 million euros. "We have to do without standards and certain construction measures," says Evers. The time of the "Wish you something" is over and the coalition had to deal with reality. The uncertainty about the future of the Jahn sports Park remains, since savings of two billion euros are also necessary for 2026.

The question remains: How will the Jahn sports park continue? The plans are uncertain, and the city faces the challenge of re -evaluating the financial means. The dream of the new stadium could turn out to be an illusion, while those responsible must continue to look for solutions to save the sports location.
