Veterinärmedizinischen Universität Wien, Österreich - In the Schönbrunn Zoo, there was tragic news: a giraffe boy born a few weeks ago died last night. The animal was born in mid -November, and although the team of zoards, veterinarians and curators was initially optimistic and the young animal at times increased in weight, the condition surprisingly deteriorated. "The team fought for the survival of the still nameless young animal for two weeks," the zoo is quoted. Ultimately, however, it could not be helped, and the young animal slept in his mother's care. The birth itself was initially easy and was "picture -book". However, the mother animal apparently could not produce enough milk, and the young animal had difficulty drinking replacement milk. According to the nurses, the mother had regularly drank, which initially suggested positive progress. In a dramatic turning point of the event, however, the sudden turn for the zoo team was not foreseeable, which only intensified the sadness of the loss. Giraffes that are scientifically known as Giraffa Camelopardalis are the highest living land animals and prefer open forests and savannas in Africa, where they mainly eat acacia and other plants.
