SPÖ strengthens position in Lower Austria: City council elections in focus!

In the recent municipal elections in Lower Austria, the SPÖ was able to win nine communities in a pleasant turn, including the district capitals Mödling and Scheibbs. Wolfgang Zwander, the state manager of the SPÖ Lower Austria, described the outcome of the election at a press conference as a strong sign of life in social democracy. Despite a slight decline in the "fictitious state result", where the SPÖ fell from 27.73 percent to 26.39 percent and took second place behind the ÖVP, the ascent to the 106 mayor is important.

In addition to the number of newly won mandates, the SPÖ experiences another refreshment through so-called "half-time solutions": In municipalities such as St. Andrä-Wördern and Dorfstetten, the local chief is provided by the SPÖ from the middle of the legislative period. In Mödling, on the other hand, the mayor changes from the SPÖ to the Greens in the first half. The number of female local chiefs rose from 20 to 23, which underlines diversity within the party. However, the President of the Lower Austrian SPÖ Community Representative Association, Andreas Kollross, noted that the financial conditions for cities and municipalities were "very dramatic" and called for support from municipal aid packages from the federal government and the country to counteract the tense situation, such as orf.at reported. The SPÖ is therefore faced with challenges, while at the same time it can record success in the elections, which promises an exciting political outlook on the coming years.
