Selenski in the crisis: Approval values fall on alarming 52%!
Selenski in the crisis: Approval values fall on alarming 52%!
In Ukraine, the trust of the population in President Wolodymyr Selenskyj drops dramatically. According to a telephone survey by the Kiev Institute of Sociology (Kiis), only 52 percent of those surveyed stated in December that they had confidence in their president. This number marks a dangerous downward trend: at the beginning of the war in March 2022, the approval rate was still 90 percent. The latest surveys show that Selenskyj's trust has been constantly falling below 60 percent since mid -2023.
Trust disappears
Selenskyj's case of almost 90 percent approval of only 52 percent is alarming. It is particularly worrying that 39 percent of Ukrainians state that they are actively suspicious of the president. This is clear to the seven percent in March 2022. Selenskyj enjoys greater support in the west and center of the country than in the east and south, where the war rages most violently and the Ukrainian army has to accept territorial losses. The survey indicates that the ongoing military difficulties have a significant impact on public opinion.
Another critical point concerns uncertainty about the future support of the United States, which have so far been considered a decisive partner. Selenskyj's term of office formally ended in the past month; However, he remained in office under war law. The prospect of elections communicated by Ukrainian authorities is uncertain because about 20 percent of the country are under Russian control and millions of Ukrainians have fled abroad. This not only complicates democratic normalization, but also increases the concerns about Selenskyj's political future, as Epoch Times reports.
