Ratzeburg citizens collect 45,000 euros for new bell in St. Petri!
The St. Petri Church in Ratzeburg receives a new bronze bell that is supposed to close a tonal gap that has existed since 2001. The middle of the three bells was silent for over 20 years after a crack had made it unusable. The new bell weighs 440 kilograms and was found in the Trinity Church in Hamburg-Harburg. The installation of the new bell is currently being prepared.
In order to achieve the necessary financing goal of around 45,000 euros, citizens of the city of Ratzeburg have helped with creative ideas and generous individual donations. Pastor Wiebke Keller made a relieved manner about the support of the community. The money is also used for the installation of the new bell and the necessary repairs in the bell tower, such as loz-news.de
Details of installation and transport
The transport of the new bell to Ratzeburg was organized by the Hamburg company Iversen and Dimier. As part of the preparations in the bell tower, necessary repairs were found in the bell chair. A meeting with the architect is planned for mid -January 2025 to discuss the further steps. The installation of the bell into the St. Petri town church is also planned for 2025. Dr. Hermann Augustin, former provost, emphasized the urgency of a new bell, since the small bronze bell from 1578 has taken over its function since the middle of the bell failed.
The sound advantages of bronze bells compared to steel bells were emphasized by Norbert Drechsler, which also supports the decision for a new bronze solution, such as ndr.de reported.
