New construction of the Altena rescue station: City is urgently looking for land!

The Märkische Kreis has been looking for a suitable property for the construction of a rescue station in the border area between Altena and Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde for almost two years. The rescue station and the fire station are currently housed in the same building on Bachstrasse. Due to the difficulties of the city of Altena to fill vacancies at the rescue station, the return to the Märkische Kreis, which operates several rescue guards and has more specialist staff.

The new building is necessary because the space on Bachstrasse is not sufficient for both facilities. The decision on the new building must be made by the district council, whereby the necessary funds must be provided. There is currently no cost estimate for the project. 26.5 personnel positions are required to operate the Altena rescue station, and vehicle halls are intended for two ambulances, an emergency doctor vehicle and a reserve lid car.

Integration in the reconstruction plan

The city of Altena supports the Märkische Kreis in search of land and creating building law. The property selection must ensure that 90% of the built -up areas can be reached with an ambulance within twelve minutes. The ACO parking lot is mentioned as a possible location, but so far there is no confirmation for this.

In 2019, the City Council of Altena decided to build a combined fire and rescue station, initially with cost estimates of 5.5 million euros. After the flood disaster in 2021, the new building became part of the reconstruction plan. In mid -2022, the possibility of a demolition by the current guard and a new building was discussed in the same place, whereby the estimated costs rose to 11 million euros. With the decoupling of the rescue station in 2023, the city must also set up a new fire protection requirements plan for 2025.

The location and the damage to the fire and rescue station on Bachstrasse are part of the extensive reconstruction plan for Altena, which is to be presented to the city council on January 24th. The total damage caused by the flood disaster in July 2021 amounts to over 100 million euros, such as reported. The new fire station is estimated at around 11 million euros, while the municipal outdoor and indoor pool in Dahle is also badly damaged and a new building is estimated with around 5.6 million euros.
