BMW motorcycle with hot takeover rings: What is the company plans?
Speculation about a possible takeover of the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM through BMW Motorcycle reaches a new highlight. As OE24 has published a much-discussed social-media post in which motorcycles in striking KTM orange were shown next to a BMW M3. Despite the official silence of BMW about the takeover rumors and the rapid deletion of the posting, the company further fueled the rumor mill. Insiders speak of unnamed potential investors, which also includes BMW, while KTM itself insists on a strict confidentiality.
The situation at KTM is tense. The company, a subsidiary of Pierer Mobility AG, had to initiate bankruptcy proceedings at the end of November 2024. On February 25, 2025, a judicial renovation procedure was carried out in which the creditors approved a far -reaching renovation plan. The creditors should receive 30 percent of their claims by May 23, 2025, the amount of these claims totaling 548 million euros. Should BMW actually take over what insiders suspect, serious changes for the Upper Austria location, including the relocation of jobs and the research department to Munich.
The industry in change
In addition to BMW, other investors such as the Indian partner Bajaj and industrial investor Stephan Zöchling also express interest in KTM. Bajaj has already invested financially in production in Mattighofen. The production facilities of KTM are to be gradually raised from mid-March 2025, whereby the full utilization should be achieved within three months, such as Auto Motor und Sport . This dynamic development means that the entire Austrian supply industry is in the possible upheaval. An insider already warned of possible consequences and the exclusion of numerous local suppliers from the value chain.Details | |
