Tenant in Berlin and Hamburg: Demos for a nationwide rental cover!
Kolonnenstraße, 10829 Berlin, Deutschland - In Berlin it is bubbling! The tenants have enough of the constantly increasing prices and the uncertain housing market. On Thursday, December 5th, massive demonstrations in Berlin and Hamburg are planned to set a clear sign: it cannot go on like this! The rage of the tenants is aimed directly at politics, which is required to finally act.
The event for these protests is the Minister of Building Cleara, Klara Geywitz. While the SPD politician receives a top-class round of her "alliance for affordable living and building" in Berlin, the demonstrators want to loudly express their displeasure. Over 50 rental initiatives, clubs and organizations have come together in the alliance "offensive for living space" to demand a nationwide rental cover. Such a lid had already failed in Berlin after the Federal Constitutional Court decided that it can only be introduced at the federal level.
tenants request immediate measures!
The associations are doing everything possible to put pressure on politics, because the situation for many tenants in large cities like Berlin has worsened dramatically. Sebastian Bartels from the Berlin Tenants' Association sums it up: "The balance of the traffic lights is shocking, less than nothing was implemented in terms of rental policy during the legislature that now expires prematurely." A rental cover is indispensable in the current situation.
The rally in Berlin takes place in front of the German Institute for Building Technology on Kolonnenstrasse at 2 p.m., while a large demonstration is also planned in Hamburg at 5 p.m., including a demo train. It remains to be seen whether politics will react to the demands. But one thing is certain: the tenants are ready to fight for their rights!
