Nesting boxes for birds and bats: Marzahn-Hellersdorf protects nature!
In an impressive step for nature, the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district has installed a variety of nesting boxes for birds and bats in several green areas! A total of 331 bird boxes and 68 bat boxes were attached to popular places such as the Kaulsdorfer Lakes, along the woosh hiking trail and the Hönow pond chain. This initiative aims to improve the living conditions of the domestic wildlife and to promote the biological diversity in the region.
urgent measure for endangered species
The habitats of birds and bats are under massive pressure through demolition work, renovations and the blind of old trees. In order to counteract this alarming loss, the installation of nesting boxes is a decisive measure. Thanks to the compensation tax, the financing of these boxes could be secured. The members of the NABU district group have taken over most of the assembly work and will continue to be responsible for the maintenance of the boxes in the future. Particularly noteworthy is the integration of the students from the adjacent schools in the Hönower pond chain landscape protection area, which will take over the care of the boxes as part of the school forest lesson.
This initiative is not only a profit for the animal world, but also a sign of the commitment of the community to protect and preserve nature. The installation of the nesting boxes is a clear step in the right direction to ensure the survival of these important species!
