Berlin is urgently looking for election helpers: still 3000 places to fill!
Berlin is still urgently looking for election workers for the Bundestag election, which is due to take place on February 23, 2025. A total of around 2000 to 3000 election workers are still required to ensure the smooth running of the election. State election manager Stephan Bröchler has sent encouraging news about the status of the reports in most of the twelve districts, but there is a special need in the Mitte, Lichtenberg, Treptow-Köpenick and Neukölln districts. In addition, the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district is specifically looking for interested parties for functional offices such as election heads and secretary.
Planning in the districts has already been completed, and the total requirement of election workers now amounts to 36,600, which is more than the originally aimed at 30,000. Around 700 election workers for the Mitte district are still being sought throughout the twelve districts. Election workers must be at least 18 years old and have German citizenship. These receive a refreshment allowance that varies depending on the task: assessors in urn election bars receive 100 euros, while it is 80 euros in postal voting locations. Secretary and election leader receive 120 euros each (or 100 euros in the postal voting bars). The fact that comprehensive participation in the election is also necessary is also relevant in the light of the political situation: Chancellor Olaf Scholz asked in the Bundestag in mid-December and received no majority what Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier prompted to announce on December 27, whether a new election would be scheduled within 60 days. The parties have determined February 23.
tasks of the election workers
The tasks of the election workers are diverse and crucial for a proper execution of the choice. The main tasks of the electoral board include the guarantee of calm and order in the optional room and the review of the voting authorization based on the electoral list. You are responsible for the issue of voices, the counting of the voters and voices as well as the determination of the provisional election result, which is then sent to the municipal authority. In addition, helpers with disabilities can be provided if necessary.
The election boards are also preparing for the opening of the polling stations at 8:00 a.m. on election day and the restaurants remain open until 6:00 p.m. The duration of the counting of the votes varies, depending on the scope of the choice.
