Berlin gives cannabis licenses: what comes for social clubs!

Berlin, Deutschland - Berlin experiences a historical moment! Tuesday became the "most interesting day" for the State Secretary for Health and Care, Ellen Haußdörfer (SPD) when the black and red state government finally decided to take the long-awaited cannabis regulation. After months of waiting and heated discussions between the Senate and the districts, the necessary regulation for the partialization of cannabis is now in force in the capital.

Although the Berlin government is four months behind other federal states, there is now clarity: The responsibility for the license of cultivation associations is at the State Office of Health and Social Affairs (Lageso). In theory, a total of up to 630 permits can be issued, but so far only 23 applications from ten districts have been available for approval. Meanwhile, some impatient cannabis social clubs have already gained a foothold in Brandenburg, such as the Green cannabis social club, which has now been freshly approved.

Catalog of fines and strict regulations

With partialization, which will be effective from November 1st, adult cannabis may consume and own - but only under strict requirements. A maximum of 25 grams may be transported in public, otherwise fines between 250 and 1,000 euros are at risk of fines! The fine for smoke near schools and kindergartens will be particularly rabid - up to 1,000 euros can be due here. The new regulation has already resulted in the first dozen violations - the Berlin police counted almost 80 violations, including 41 in so -called consumption prohibition zones.

The districts take responsibility for monitoring cannabis social clubs and have to carry out regular checks. What exactly means "regularly" remains unclear, but according to Haußdörfer, this could be realistic once a year. The effort is also evaluated. The atmosphere around the cannabis regulation is eagerly observed, while the capital moves towards a new era of cannabis consumption. An era, full of rules and restrictive regulations - the question remains whether this regulation will inspire or disappoint the citizens!
