When Andreas Rauch, the committed castle administrator of Lichtenberg Castle, strolls across the site of the historic castle, he has a very special look for the small treasures that the soil hides. Instead of paying attention to bumps, he focuses on the fascinating finds, which he collects in a lovingly guided "treasure chest". This collection may seem inconspicuous at first glance, but it harbors the secrets of past times!

In a simple cardboard box, Rauch keeps a variety of envelopes in which he carefully documented the fragments and artifacts found. Each piece bears the notes on the date and the exact location. Most finds are shards of dishes from the Middle Ages or the early modern period, which can be clearly determined by their shape and glaze. But also delicate broken glasses, possibly from Butzen's disks, and animal teeth find their place in this unique collection. So far, Rauch has already filled about 50 envelopes!

A plan for the future: Historical discoveries map

Although Rauch is not a trained archaeologist and sometimes wishes to be able to determine the age of the tone shards more precisely, he is lucky enough to get in touch with several experts who can provide him with valuable information. His ambitious goal is to draw the finds into a large -format plan of the castle. With this precise assignment, he not only hopes for a better insight into the history of the castle, but also exciting knowledge about its former residents.
