Mayor Martin Schaefer (CDU) emphasizes the responsibility to deal sensitively with the eventful history of the building. Despite the structural changes, the swastika remains recognizable for connoisseurs. "We have to respect the history of the house," says Schaefer, while the district assembly is ready to decide on the application in the democratic process.

The town hall was already listed on September 21, 1977. Why the swastika was not removed at the time remains a mystery. "Unfortunately, after almost 50 years, we cannot say why the decision -makers at that time remained idle in the GDR," explains the mayor.
