Young travelers conquer the world: New trends in tourism 2025!
The international tourism exchange is currently taking place in Berlin, which meets from Tuesday to Thursday and is one of the largest events of its kind with 100,000 participants from 190 countries. At this important event, 5,600 exhibitors, including representatives of Styria, present themselves. Eva-Maria Adamer-König, who heads the Institute for Health and Tourism Management at the Joanneum University of Applied Sciences in Graz, emphasizes the challenges that the industry is facing. It becomes clear in their assessment: The classic, two -week vacation of the older generation is becoming increasingly unattractive for the younger ones. According to Adamer King, younger travelers, especially millennials, are much more spontaneous and often only book their trips shortly before vacation. While the Baby Boomer generation, i.e. the over 50-year-olds, started traveling later, 54 percent of the millennials were already abroad before they were five years old. This data comes from a current study by the online travel portal Edreams, which examined the travel behavior of 13,000 consumers in eight countries. 51 percent of those surveyed stated that they were significantly more traveling today than ten years ago, which is mainly due to improved travel options and a higher available income, as EDREAMS managing director Danna Dunne explains.changed travel behavior and new trends
The study results show a clear trend: travel has not only become more often, but also more diverse for young generations. While Baby Boomer traveled an average of three countries up to the age of 18, Millennials have already visited six countries. In addition, it is important for many younger people to travel sustainably and use public transport to minimize their ecological footprint.
Adamer king emphasizes how essential social media are for the travel decisions of young people, since 27 percent of travel destinations they have seen on Tiktok. In view of these trends, the tourism industry has to find new ways in advertising and public appearance in order to serve the wishes and needs of the following generations. The entire travel industry is therefore faced with a fundamental redesign in order to keep up with the dynamic changes in the travel behavior, as can be seen from the findings of the Edreams study.
