Kreuzberg on alert: Fentanyl threatens the drug scene!

Kreuzberg, Deutschland - In Kreuzberg it is bubbling! Drug hotspots such as the Görlitzer Park and the Kottbuser Tor are not only known for their lively atmosphere, but also for the terrifying presence of syringes on the floor. An insider now has alarming news: A dangerous new drug is spreading in the capital - and it has already caused countless deaths in other countries!

Juri Schaffranek, a committed street worker of the Gangway association, warns of the impending danger. At a citizens' meeting in the neighborhood center Kiezanker 36, he reported on the arrival of Fentanyl in Berlin. This drug follows the wave of crack, which has flooded the streets since 2017. Fentanyl, an extremely strong pain reliever that is up to 100 times more potent than morphine, is becoming increasingly popular in the Kreuzberg drug scene-even though the United States is already fighting with a devastating opioid crisis.

fentanyl: The fatal threat

The numbers are alarming: In 2021 alone, between 70,000 and 80,000 people died of an opioid overdose in the United States. Fentanyl is considered the main cause of deaths in people between the ages of 18 and 45. Despite these frightening statistics, the reports from overseas do not seem to deter the drug users in Kreuzberg. The fentanyl traded in the scene often comes from plasters already used, which are then consumed in different ways - be it through injection, smoking or gluing on the lips.

Schaffranek observes a worrying increase in consumers in Berlin. What was once a marginal group is now growing rapidly. The impending danger is real, and time is pushing to protect people from this fatal substance!
