Ceremonial inauguration of the Freia-Icener-Straße in Friedrichshain: Historical honor with district mayor!
In Friedrichshain, the new Freia-Icener-Straße is inaugurated with a solemn inauguration. District Mayor Clara Herrmann, the historians Dr. Claudia Schoppmann and Trille Schünke-Bettinger and a relative part. The event is framed musically. The inauguration will take place on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. at the Freiaa-Eisner-Straße intersection, corner of Valeska-Gert-Straße, 10243 Berlin.
Freia Eisner, after whom the street is named, was a committed activist for peace and a just society. It was part of the women's and peace movement and campaigned for the rights of LSBTTIQ*people. As a socialist, anti -fascist and pacifist, she represented freedom and democratic values. The district council decided in June 2023 to name a street to Freia Eisner, although it is a planned road without postal addresses.
The inauguration of Freia-Icener-Straße is a collaboration with the "active museum". District Mayor Clara Herrmann emphasized the importance of making the commitment and history of Freia Eisner visible in public space. The inauguration of this street not only honors an important personality, but also sets a sign of tolerance and diversity in society.
