Eisbären Berlin: Dramatic defeat at the last second shocked fans!
In the sold-out Uber-Arena in Berlin, there was an exuberant atmosphere on Sunday afternoon. Just 17 seconds before the final whistle, everything for the polar bears on course for the twelfth victory in a row in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) seemed. The victory was tangible with a 3-1 lead against the Schwenninger Wild Wings. But fate had other plans!
What happened in the last minute is an extremely rare sight in ice hockey. The polar bears first conceded the connection goal to 2: 3 and then, with only 0.6 seconds on the clock, the controversial equalization fell. The cheers of the Schwenninger knew no limits! In the subsequent overtime, the drama became perfect: another goal for the Wild Wings sealed the 3: 4 defeat of the polar bears, which lost a game that they actually had under control. Zach Senyshyn became the hero of the evening and ended the impressive 19 -game extension series of the Berliner.
The game in retrospect
The polar bears had developed a comfortable 3: 1 lead through goals from Liam Kirk, Eric Mik outnumbered and Gabriel Fontaine. But the disaster started, and despite the defeat, the lead in Berlin remains. After an intensive season, the international break for the Germany Cup is now pending before the polar bears meet again on December 28th. After two dramatic 3: 4 defeats this season, it is time to finally play again until the end!
