Railway revolution: Neubrandenburg will soon get ICE connection!
in Neubrandenburg should be able to keep ICE trains again in about three years. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the planning for this measure is already underway. Work is currently running at the signal box, which serve as the first preparations for the arrival of long -distance trains. In order to offer space, the platform edges at Neubrandenburg train station must be extended to 210 meters, since the current platforms are not long enough. Construction has been built for almost a year, and in March 2025 everything should be ready for operation, such as "https://www.ndr.de/nachrichten/mecklenburg-vorpommer/haff-mueritz/ice-s-s-s-jahren-wieder-in-neubenburg-halt ,-mvregioneubrandenburg2240.html"> ndr.de reported.
In addition, the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (VMV) transport company is planning to extend the platforms in Neubrandenburg. Discussions on the planning, financing and implementation of the extension were recorded with DB Infrago AG last year. Mayor Silvio Witt reported that there has been no concrete result of the negotiations so far, but the VMV will inform the city as soon as the negotiations have been completed. Witt emphasized the importance of close contact with the transport company, while Infrastructure Minister Reinhard Meyer (SPD) announced in January that he wanted to create the prerequisites for connecting the Neubrandenburg train station to long -distance transport. The two platforms with four tracks are to be extended from 140 to 210 meters, such as nordkurier.de
peculiarities of the project
The renovation in 2018 led to the platforms to be shortened by 70 meters, which led to no long -distance trains in Neubrandenburg. The need to extend the platforms was underlined by the fact that “XL-Regios” drove through Neubrandenburg for a long time last year. From summer 2024, seasonal trains between Berlin and the Baltic Sea coast are to be led over the regular route and not via Neubrandenburg. Witt considers it likely that at least one of the two platforms will be extended, which is already estimated. Construction will start as possible in the Ministry of Economic Affairs in 2027 or 2028. In addition, long -distance trains would have to be ordered from the state with a stop in Neubrandenburg, whereby there is also the possibility to replace a regional express with a remote connection.
With the planned extension to 210 meters, trains of the ICE generation T (185 meters) and ICE-4 (202 meters) could hold at the main train station. However, twelve-part ICE-4, which are 350 meters long, are not suitable for Neubrandenburg.
