Coca-Cola closes five locations in Germany-505 jobs affected!

Coca-Cola plans to close five locations in Germany next year, which is a significant restructuring of the company in the region. The production and logistics locations in Cologne, Neumünster, Berlin-Hohenschönhausen, Bielefeld and Memmingen are affected. The closures were announced by Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP), who are responsible for filling and sales in Germany.

A total of 505 jobs should be lost due to these measures. While 207 employees are relocated to other locations, 78 new jobs are planned. This is done in the context of a “continuing competitive market environment”, in which the company wants to optimize its cost structure in order to react to the changed requirements of beverage logistics and to increase the efficiency of its production and logistics processes.

Details about the closures

The location in Cologne, where around 600 people are currently employed, will stop production on March 31, 2025. CCEP has explained that the location density in western Germany with four companies is very high and Cologne is considered the smallest location, which has taken the potential for further growth and expansion options. The closure is intended to help increase the utilization of the remaining locations and to make production more efficiently.

In the other cities affected by closings, these are pure logistics locations. According to CCEP, it is important to implement the changes socially responsibly, which is particularly important for the employees concerned. Tilmann Rothhammer, the managing director for customer service and supply chain at CCEP, has emphasized that the company is aware of the scope of these decisions and wants to carry out all measures transparently.

Another reason for the closures is the changed structure of beverage logistics, which increasingly switches from large trading partners to delivery via central warehouse. As a result, the number of direct customers and orders as well as the warehouse output volume at the logistics locations drops considerably. This development represents a challenge that CCEP wants to tackle the current measures.

Coca-Cola Europacific Partners is the largest beverage company in Germany and employs around 6,500 people at 27 locations, including 14 production plants. The current changes are a sign of the increasing adjustments that companies have to make in the industry in order to remain successful in a rapidly changing market.
