Number of violations of violence protection orders in Berlin exploded!

Berlin, Deutschland - alarming numbers from Berlin! In the past five years, the police have recorded a dramatic increase in violations of violence protection orders. The numbers speak volumes: From 1,082 ads in 2019, the number of violations rose to terrifying 1,561 in 2023! This information comes from a current answer from the Berlin judicial administration to a parliamentary request from the SPD parliamentary group in the House of Representatives.

Violence protection orders are a crucial instrument to protect victims of domestic violence, mostly women, from further threats by their perpetrators. These orders often contain strict measures such as a ban on entering the victim's apartment, bans in residence near the victim and even complete bans. But despite these protective measures, the perpetrators seem to remain unimpressed, which explains the alarming numbers.

hotspots of violence

It is particularly worrying that most of the violations in the Mitte, Neukölln and Tempelhof-Schöneberg district of Berlin were registered. In 2023, violations were reported in mid-213, followed by Neukölln with 163 and Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf with 128. In contrast, the districts of Kreuzberg-Friedrichshain, where 80 were recorded very few violations. These developments throw a bright light on the persistent problems in the field of domestic violence and the challenges in front of which the authorities are facing.
