Ku’damm Christmas lighting: glimmer of hope in the dark!
Kurfürstendamm, 10719 Berlin, Deutschland - the Ku’damm, Berlin's magnificent shopping street, could be threatened by darkness this year! In the contemplative Christmas season, the boulevard usually enchants the population with its impressive light of lights. But the current Situation is alarming! Last year the Christmas lights could only be saved by generous donations. What about this year?
High tones from the City AG warn: "The Christmas lights on Ku’damm is bad!". The Senate has stopped financing and real estate companies withdraw as sponsors. A threatening loss of light! But Ronald Sedlatzek, Managing Director of AG City, does not drop hope: "We cannot afford to let the Ku’damm dark." The first lights have been installed since this week, but there are still no massive 550,000 euros! So far, only 150,000 euros were found by donations from the Berlin economy.
Planning and priorities of lighting
In a first step, the lights are installed on Tauentzienstraße and the adjacent Ku’damm to Meinekestrasse. But the large luminous bodies like plush Santa Clauses have to be a long time coming. "This has absolute priority with us," emphasizes Sedlatzek, because the financial means are simply not available! More lights should only be in prospect if there are further donations. The shine of the Ku’damm hangs on the silk thread!
A ray of hope for the future: From next year, a community of real estate owners plans to cover the annual costs for festive lighting. But initially donated vigorously so that the Ku’damm can still shine this year!
