On the occasion of Pastor Johann Christian Gottfried Dressel's 200th day of death, two outstanding events are on the program that honor the impressive legacy of this visionary man.
The first event will take place on Friday, November 1, 2024, at 6 p.m. in the Administrative Information Center (VIZ) of the Charlottenburg City Hall. Here the historian and museum expert Birgit Jochens will report on Dressel's pioneering commitment in poor care and illuminated his significant contribution to the construction of the first poor hospital. An indispensable part of the city's history is alive here!
fascinating exhibition and historical walks
On Sunday, November 3, at 12 p.m., there is an exciting climax with an exhibition management and a historic walk around the Luisenkirche on Gierkeplatz. After the fair, the cultural scientist Katja Baumeister and Thomas Wolfes, the head of the viz, take the guests through the Dressel exhibition and offer some interesting insights into Charlottenburg's history. Then it goes on a guided walk that leads the participants through the historical site and illuminates important stations from Dressel's life's work.
All events are free of charge, so do not miss this unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the fascinating story of one of the formative citizens of this city! From 1778 until his death on October 16, 1824, Pastor Dressel was a driving force in the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Charlottenburg. He reformed the school system, introduced modern teaching methods and founded a hospital for the needy - a hero for the city and its people! This project is funded by the Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Companies as well as the Freundeskreis of the Luisenkirchen community.
