BDI demands more armor: Red alarm level for Germany!

München, Deutschland - On January 12, 2025, the BDI (Federal Association of German Industry) reported on the requirements for Germany to assume more responsibility in relation to security and defense. In a clear message, the BDI explained that "the time of the peace dividend was over". This statement is interpreted as a call for increased upgrade, weapon exports and military inserts.

The BDI is a partner of the Munich Security Conference, which will take place from February 14th to 16th, 2025. A central counter -demonstration is planned on February 15, 2025 in Munich, which deals with the global power struggle and its effects on workers. The high expenditure for armor projects is criticized, while cuts are made in the educational, health and social sector. This leads to an increasing gap between the richest and poorest social classes. The counter -demonstration raises the demand for overcoming the capitalist system and a struggle for a socialist perspective, with the slogan: "Fighting the capital until peace wins! For peace and socialism!"

security conference and international tensions

As part of the 55th Munich Security Conference (MSC), the current international tensions and the preservation of the liberal world order will be dealt with. The title of the current Munich Security Report is "The Great Puzzle: Who Wants To Pick Up The Pieces". A central aspect is the competition between the United States, Russia and China, with BDI President Dieter Kempf warns that “waiting is the greatest risk”. Germany as the largest economy in Europe cannot afford to remain passive.

A survey by the PEW Research Center shows that the German population considers the use of Germany in international politics as important. In addition, a common foreign and security policy in Europe is considered necessary in order to be able to counter future global challenges. The BDI is actively involved in discussions in promoting dialogue about security issues during the MSC. In the area of artificial intelligence (AI), too, the BDI manifests itself with recommendations for regulation and ethical questions.

In addition, the BDI calls for a ban on autonomous weapons systems (laws) and emphasizes that decisions about life and death should always be in humans. The need for closer cooperation in the development and procurement of weapon systems is highlighted. Projects such as FCAs and MGCs between Germany and France show potential for bilateral armaments cooperation. The background to these endeavors is also the growing security -political importance of space, the market of which should grow to over $ 2,700 billion by 2040.
