Bavaria-Bohemia: The Eger Cycle Path is about its big opening!

Röslau, Deutschland - in the Wunsiedel i. Fichtelgebirge has started an important project in the continuation of the Eger-Radweg. The construction of the new cycle paths, which extends over a distance of 1.7 kilometers, connects the municipalities of Röslau and Neudes. This initiative is part of a larger project that began commissioning the Bavaria-Bohemia bridge bike path in 2013. The aim is to create a consistent bike path that offers both locals and tourists a high quality connection to the "Bavarian-Bohemian Bath".

The new bridge that was inaugurated today spans the Eger and has an impressive length of 13.5 meters. With a weight of four tons, the construction consists of aluminum and represents an important gap closure in the bike path setting. The work on the section between Röslau and Neudes is on schedule, so that the completion of this part of the cycle path is realistic by the end of November 2024.

parallel to the bridge: improvements in the infrastructure

Planning beyond the mere building of the cycle paths also provide for a comprehensive improvement in the infrastructure. Numerous facilities are being built in the vicinity of the new cycle path, which should provide both the rest and the quality of stay of cyclists. This includes resting benches, resting options as well as special bike parking systems and service stations. When designing these elements, attention is not only paid for functionality, but also for aesthetics and design, which will benefit the entire experience.

The completion of this decisive project not only marks a big step for mobility in the region, but also offers opportunities for the development of tourist potential. From the 2025 bike season, the cycle path connection from the source of the Eger to the state border at Schirnding will be accessible to everyone and thus relies on sustainability and active leisure activities.

The entire project is responsible for the district of Wunsiedel i. Fichtelgebirge and is realized in cooperation with the participating municipalities such as Weißenstadt, Marktleuthen, Thierstein, Selb, Hohenberg a.d.eger and Schirnding. This mosaic of completed and newly built bike paths shows the strength of a joint initiative that has developed for years.

Overall, the Eger-Radweg is a prime example of cross-border cooperation and sustainable development in the field of bicycle traffic. The project can also create ideal prerequisites for promoting regional tourism from which not only the cyclists benefit, but also the local communities.

If you want to discover the beauty of nature along the Eger in the future, this new interruption of cycle path will find a unique experience. The possibility of cycling directly from the source to the Elbe not only ensures an impressive route, but also a strong link between leisure, landscape and culture.
