Winter sports hit: Zauchensee inspires despite fewer day guests!

In the wonderful ski areas of Zauchensee, a winter dream is currently true, because up to two meters of fresh snow ensure perfect conditions on the slopes. But although the ski slopes are set to high operation, the number of day guests has decreased noticeably this year. Veronika Scheffer, the managing director of the Zauchensee lift company, reports that up to 20 coaches from Bavaria or Upper Austria have been able to travel on top days in the past, but at the moment it is only one or two. This development has an immediate effect on sales in the region, where the winter season 2023/24 nevertheless started with a record win of almost 20 million euros, according to the annual report of Snow Space Salzburg.

Zauchensee, which has been known as the venue for FIS World Cup races for over 40 years, offers a variety of slopes for every level. The Gamskogel descent is seen as one of the most demanding speed routes in the Ski World Cup, on which the athletes already start the race at speeds of up to 100 km/h. Skiparadies is not only known for sporting challenges; Families will find a wide range of activities, from children's landscapes to carving runs. The top prepared slopes and many adventure offers have brought Zauchensee the predicate “extra class” several times, as bergfex reported.

Away from the prepared slopes, Zauchensee is also an Eldorado for freeriders, who expect numerous adventures on untouched deep snow slopes. The scenery with impressive panoramas and the variety of off-slopes attract winter athletes from near and far. Thanks to the altitude of up to 2,100 meters, the snow conditions are guaranteed to well over Easter. While access to the Skiparadies simply takes place via the A10 Tauern motorway, it remains to be seen how the situation with the day guests will develop, especially with regard to the ongoing renovations of the tunnels on this important traffic artery. Despite these challenges, the region draws a positive interim balance at the beginning of the winter holidays as Orf Salzburg reported.
