Wind power in the Oberland: New opportunities for renewable energies!

In the Oberland region, promising locations are finally crystallizing for the coveted wind turbines! The regional representative Cornelia Drexl presented the exciting results to the planning committee. Despite the difficult search, just 1.81 percent of the area of all four counties remained as priority areas after taking all nature conservation law issues and exclusion criteria, with a tenth of these areas in the picturesque Alpine region.

The feedback from almost 100 municipalities show an open -minded climate compared to wind power. Drexl reports that around 75 percent of those involved answered: half with neutral opinions, while the other half is evenly distributed to positive and negative feedback. A strong sign of the growing interest in renewable energies in the region!

precise planning for the future

The determination of the locations was anything but easy. Numerous factors, such as the north-south polarization, were taken into account, which enables a greater allocation in the north of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen districts, Weilheim-Schongau, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and Miesbach. The residents also want a clear view of the Alps. The planners have divided the search rooms into small “tiles” from 100 to 100 meters, which makes the selection more precise than ever. Economic aspects are also crucial: where the wind does not blow, wind turbines are not profitable. The areas must also be opened to ensure a simple journey.

With the 1.81 percent of the area, the Planning Association region Oberland has created a valuable buffer! In the first step, only 1.1 percent of the total area must be determined. The final regional plan is to be presented in the first quarter of 2025. Interestingly, the committee members regretted that the locations cannot be distributed more evenly to the counties. A community that wants to start immediately is Peiting in the Weilheim-Schongau district, whose mayor Peter Ostenrieder inquired about the building application conditions. In principle, the existing regional plan allows the construction of wind turbines - a clear step into the future of renewable energies!
