Dispute over Penzberg's menage house: Citizens' initiative vs. homeowner!

Penzberg, Deutschland - in Penzberg it is bubbling hard! A heated debate unfolds between the citizens' initiative "for the preservation of the menage house line" and angry homeowners. While the initiative collects signatures for its citizens' request, Martin Ahammer, the head of a popular pastry shop, and Jack Eberl, another real estate owner, raise alarm. They are outraged by the procedure of the initiative, which in their opinion intervenes in the rights of private owners.

Last Saturday Ahammer and Eberl showed their displeasure with a provocative poster directly on the city square, just a few steps from the information stand of the initiative. "We learned from the newspaper that it is not just about the menage house, but also about our buildings!" Scolds Ahammer. The initiative, founded by members of the Penzberg Monument Association, plans to secure the preservation of historical buildings in the city center. But the homeowners feel over and fear that their real estate could be classified as worth protecting without consent.

The dispute over the menage house

The waves hit up, because in the background there are massive blueprints of the developer "Bavaria living". This plans to tear down several existing buildings and to build a gigantic residential, office and business complex with up to six floors. Mayor Stefan Korpan (CSU) recently read out the statement by the Lower Monument Protection Authority, which denies a worthy protection of the menage house. "Writing is a shopkeeper," countered Max Kapfer, chairman of the monument association, and wonders why the announcement has been made right now.

The citizens 'initiative needs at least 1570 signatures to bring about a citizens' decision. Ahammer and Eberl have already threatened legal steps if they feel that their rights are violated. "We would like to decide on our ownership myself!" Eberl emphasizes. The tension in Penzberg increases, while the initiative continues to collect signatures and the homeowners vehemently defend themselves.
